Quick Workout?

Boy is life with a child different than my previous one. Today was a perfect case in point.

Pre child - You think, hey I will go for a run tomorrow morning. You wake up, dress in running clothes, eat breakfast, grab your gear, run until you feel done.

Post child - You are having so much fun cuddling you don't realize how late it is. You work hard to coerce your child into eating fast so you can get going. At this point you figure you can still squeeze in an hour - plenty of time to run at a nice "first run of spring" pace and then cool down before story time. You get dressed, you spend 15 minutes dressing your child and then she half undresses to pee. You re-dress the child and get her gloves and shoes on. While you go to grab your Ipod, your child takes her gloves and shoes off. You re-dress again, add coats and strap her into the stroller. You run around for 5 more minutes looking for your gloves, give up and go to get a new pair from the laundry room. As you head upstairs - you see the gloves you really wanted. You start to leave, but realize you need your purse to do errands on the way home, coupons that Melissa needs (she will be at the library) and you have no snack. or water.

You fill water bottles, make your child a snack and start to believe you can actually get out the door. Now you just have to block the dogs out of the basement and find the cat to put out the kitchen door. By the time you get outside and look at your watch, you have 25 minutes until story time starts. Ok - so you will run faster than you planned, it will still be relaxing.

You start running. After a few blocks your child starts to repeat something over and over. You agree, say OK, tell her you heard her, but she does not stop. Finally, you stop, pull the stroller cover back, have her remove her binkie and say you are listening. Your child asks if you can bring one of these houses your running past home.....

So, you start to run again and check the time. You will have to pick it up a bit. You then realize that while trying to solve the house riddle you went the wrong way and you are headed to the library the LONG way. You will have to run a bit faster.

You make it to the library, practically sprinting, with a few minutes to spare. Your heart rate monitor has been beeping at you for 5 minutes because your heart rate is 10 higher than your work out target.

You shrug your shoulders and think, well at least my speed/interval run is over for the week. Better luck tomorrow!
